About MapsGuessr

MapsGuessr is a geography guessing game built around observation, exploration and competition.

Each round places you somewhere in the world using real-world Street View imagery. Your task is to study the environment, identify geographic clues and place your guess on the world map.

Explore the world

Roads, architecture, landscapes, road markings, signs, languages, vegetation and infrastructure can all provide clues about where you are.

MapsGuessr turns those clues into a simple challenge: explore the location, decide where you think you are, and make your guess.

Distance determines your score

After each guess, MapsGuessr compares your selected position with the actual location. The closer your guess is, the higher your round score.

At the end of the game, scores from all rounds are combined into your final result.

Several ways to play

Solo

Practice geography at your own pace and improve your ability to recognize places around the world.

Quick Match

Compete against another MapsGuessr player in a shared geography challenge. Both players receive the same locations, making each match a direct test of geographic knowledge and observation.

Private games

Create a private room and invite friends using a room code. Everyone plays the same locations and competes on the same leaderboard.

Built for fair competition

Multiplayer scoring, round timing and game results are determined by the MapsGuessr server rather than by the browser.

This keeps players synchronized and helps ensure that everybody competes under the same game rules.
