Geography Game Guides
Build a repeatable way to read a location, understand the imagery behind a round, and get back to exploring when something fails to load.
A practice path for your first games
Start with the skill you find difficult, or follow this sequence. Each lesson has a different job: learning the controls, interpreting text, comparing a map, and testing your reasoning.
- Complete a round. The playing guide follows an invented round from first observations to the reveal. It also explains phone controls and shows how distance affects your score.
- Interpret a readable name. In reading road signs, distinguish a destination from your current location and compare three candidate junctions. Open the answer only after choosing which observation rules out each alternative.
- Orient the scene. Map reading practice turns left and right into compass directions. Use the illustrated river-and-railway exercise to check your reasoning from two viewing directions.
- Combine independent clues. The three-clue method includes a bridge comparison and a short practice log. Use it to explain why a candidate fits, and what would make you change your mind.
Make practice useful
Choose one skill for your next game. If you are practicing signs, record what each sign actually says before interpreting it. If you are practicing orientation, describe two landmarks using compass directions before placing the marker. Trying to improve everything at once makes it harder to understand why a guess improved.
After the reveal, keep one successful observation and one correction. A lower score can still teach you something specific: perhaps you found the right town but selected a parallel road. Return to the lesson that addresses that mistake, then try the same check in another round.
The teaching exercises use invented places and original diagrams. They teach a reasoning process; they are not a list of locations guaranteed to appear in the game.
Understand which places can appear
Learn how Street View coverage affects geography games, why a map is not a uniform sample of the world, and how to check imagery availability.
Fix a blank panorama
Work through the Street View troubleshooting checklist to separate a connection problem from a location that cannot load.
Put the guides into practice
Play MapsGuessr, then return to the guide that matches the part of the round you found difficult.
